That people do safety - not policy and procedures, is fundamental to our approach to aviation safety management and underpins our thinking in all that we do. With three very successful events now behind us, the Baines Simmons bi-annual Safety Management Symposium has become recognised as one of industry’s most important events in the aviation safety calendar. It continues to go from strength to strength, attracting high calibre speakers from civil, military and regulatory aviation organisations and more than 200 delegates from around the world.
The 2012 Symposium, held at the London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, focused on how to improve business performance through effective safety management. Keynote speaker Mark Rogerson, Head of Group Operations Efficiency at Serco threw down the gauntlet to attending CEOs, safety managers and financial managers by asking: “Is safety managed from your boardroom?” Thus began a lively two days of interactive debate, discussion and networking between civil and military colleagues and industry regulators as the evidence became clear that safety is good for business and not just a bottom line cost.
We were also proud to launch the Innovation in Aviation Safety Management Award scheme to provide a credible platform to recognise organisations for their innovative safety management practices. The calibre of entries was outstanding and our independent panel of expert judges awarded the inaugural trophy to Jazz Aviation of Canada. Who, we ask, will be the winners of the next Award?
Planning for the next 2014 Symposium is already underway as we drill down into the comments and suggestions received from delegates and our own desire to push the boundaries of aviation safety management still further. Our aim is always to provide a stimulating and thought-provoking forum for industry to discuss the very latest thinking on safety and all that it entails.
Details will be posted in due course on our website and via Linked In, so please register your interest now.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Fourth European Safety Management Symposium in 2014.
