2,000th Safety Investigator Trained
At our Aviation Safety Academy today, Stuart King from AgustaWestland UK, was delighted to learn that he was the 2,000th person to successfully qualify as a trained aviation safety investigator.
The highly acclaimed Effective Event Investigation course was first delivered in 2002 to Malaysian Airlines. It was developed in response to the aviation industry’s need for competent in-company maintenance error investigators who, as well as establishing what happened, would have the ability to uncover why – so adding real value to the business by developing successful interventions to prevent future incidents and accidents.
Stuart King from AgustaWestland UK, celebrating being the 2,000th person to qualify as a trained aviation safety investigator, receives his certificate from Baines Simmons’ Managing Director Keven Baines and Technical Director Bob Simmons.
Originally developed around UK Police interviewing techniques and the Boeing MEDA tool, and with the later introduction of cutting edge techniques in cognitive investigation methods, the three-day highly participative training course takes delegates from an understanding of Human Factors to an ability to apply methods of human factors investigation.
Keven Baines, Managing Director commented: “This course has been very successful for both us and our clients. Without doubt it delivers highly competent investigators capable of answering the why (did it happen) question, and thus enabling successful intervention decisions. Of all our competence development programmes I am personally very proud of our unique achievement here. Primarily because even the most experienced aviation safety professional always tells us that they take something away from this course – the confidence to get stuck in and make a difference”.
The course has recently seen significant development and enhancement, with the addition of new techniques, challenging case studies and worked examples. More significantly perhaps, our Flight Operations Subject Leaders have widened the scope of the course and adapted the supporting toolkits to make it relevant for all aviation disciplines. A highly successful Flight Operations, Maintenance, Air Traffic Management and Ground Support Services version has recently been delivered at RAF Lossiemouth, to highly encouraging feedback.
Allan Price one of our specialist investigator training team delivered this course to Babcock Defence Services, receiving this client feedback:
“The course was excellent in terms of content and presentation. Allan again did an exceptional job maintaining enthusiasm and has a genuine passion for the subject. This was commented upon by all the delegates. They felt his depth of knowledge, energy, sense of humour, patience and team spirit really made the course accessible and enjoyable.
From a personal point of view as the Technical Training Manager, I feel he has played a pivotal role in helping us move forward with purpose and real intent down the Error Management System road. In essence I feel the cost of this customized course was good value for money and I will certainly recommend and promote the course.”
