Just Culture at the RAF – How the DAEMS programme is making an impact
Baines Simmons has been helping the MAA implement their Defence Aviation Error Management System (DAEMS) programme since 2011. In just four years, many thousands of aviation specialist personnel working across the Royal Navy, the British Army, the Royal Air Force (RAF), and Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) will have embarked on a significant aviation safety improvement project that is, quite simply, designed to save lives.
Changing the culture of our Armed Forces with regards to safety was never going to be achieved overnight, but there are already some very impressive results. Read the RAF’s Perfect Storm article for a compelling insight into why this programme is so important and to understand how the DAEMS programme is having a major impact. As Wing Commander Rich McMahon of the RAF Safety Centre, says: “We are encouraged by the value that you place on the story as we believe that it demonstrates our improving ‘Just Culture’ and a greater awareness within the RAF of the value of the error reporting system. Much of that success can be attributed to the collaboration between Baines Simmons, the MAA and Front Line Commands.”
