In an ever increasingly complex aviation environment, the need to be able to manage safety effectively has never been more important. All service providers, from Air Operators to manufactures and designers, are grappling with what it means to manage aviation safety whilst balancing the commercial needs of their respective businesses. Safety cannot be managed in isolation of the rest of the business if it is to be successful. It needs to sit alongside other critical business functions, serving the business’s aims rather than be considered as burdensome, compliance activity. This is where setting up an effective safety management system is critical. An effective system will not only give you confidence that you are managing your safety risks, and therefore protecting your approval to operate, but it should also provide greater, proactive decision-making power.

Yes! The requirements of Part-M have changed to necessitate a system to manage safety risk. The content of TS02 is operationally agnostic and enables delegates to apply the methodologies described within the course to their relevant operational context; indeed, the course is designed to encourage differing perspectives from across the aviation industry. This allows delegates to not only understand how to apply SMS to their operational context but also to understand how they interact with other sectors of the aviation industry to collectively add to the enviable safety record achieved within aviation
The course remains ‘tool agnostic’ as much as possible but it does provide examples and links to industry recognized approaches and methodologies. The course also provides guidance towards the approach you should take (based on the size of your organization) which will help you select the correct ‘tool kit’ to implement an SMS.
There is significant value to be achieved by sitting the TS02 and TS90. TS02 will provide a holistic, system-wide understanding and allow you to fully appreciate where safety risk management fits alongside the other essential elements of safety management.
