His career has spanned operational, engineering, safety, and leadership roles, from the flight decks of Royal Navy aircraft to senior executive positions supporting offshore oil and gas aviation operations. This broad background provides him with extensive practical expertise in aviation operations, safety management, compliance, and risk assurance.
Mark's aviation career began in the Royal Navy, where he completed an aircraft engineering apprenticeship before being commissioned as an Aircrew Officer. This rare combination of engineering and flight operations experience provided him with a distinctive perspective on aviation safety, operational performance, and risk management, which has remained a defining feature of his professional approach throughout his career.
Following his military service, Mark joined CHC Helicopter, where he established a successful career within the offshore aviation sector. Over the years, he held a range of operational, safety, and leadership appointments, culminating in his role as Director, Compliance & Assurance. In this position, he was responsible for leading compliance, assurance, governance, and continuous improvement activities across the organisation.
Throughout his career, Mark has maintained a strong commitment to advancing aviation safety, supporting organisations in strengthening safety culture, enhancing operational performance, and managing risk effectively. He firmly believes that sustainable safety excellence is achieved through the integration of robust management systems, practical operational experience, and a genuine commitment to people.
Mark resides approximately 25 miles north of Aberdeen, Scotland, an area he often describes as "not too far from the Arctic Circle." Outside of his professional activities, he enjoys spending time outdoors and is a keen road cyclist, taking full advantage of the spectacular landscapes and quiet roads of northeast Scotland.
